This weekend saw the start of the double for the cross county events starting at Footscray Meadows. With a splash of rain through the night followed by calm and mild conditions on the day, left the ground very soft underfoot in places. Almost perfect conditions with less visible hills but with the presence of multiple inclines the route saw the Senior men tackle 3 loops covering just shy of 10k. No Senior women were competing.
A field of 263 runners took part and I was delighted to field another team consisting of Steve Chalklen storming home in his borrowed spikes in 92nd (40:18), Martin Taylor provided a strong 117th (41:42), David Sampson 125th (41:57) and Steve Wright 139th (42:22) completing the scoring team and bringing home 6 points in 17th position. But we weren’t finished there, Mark Wild felt the force of fitness and the delight to finish in 195th (46:15) and Nicholas Smith completing the clubs attendance in 241st (51:45).
3 events into the league and considering we didn’t score at event #1 the Senior men are in a commendable 19th overall. Well done gents. Rest well and save something for the final event in February.
The next event will be held at Danson Park on 25th November where the Senior men are given some time out with no race scheduled so all the focus will be on the juniors and Senior women. Here’s hoping for lots of Girl power!
In the meantime, happy running folks!
