The 22nd Startrack Athletics Week was organised by Paddock Wood Athletic Club
Congratulations and thanks to everyone involved in another successful week.
The 22nd Startrack Athletics Week, organised by Paddock Wood Athletic Club at Mascalls School, was an outstanding success. 120 children aged from 5 to 14 took part over the week. They had the chance to try out High Jump, Long and Triple Jump, Javelin, Hammer, Discus, Shot, Hurdles, Sprints Middle & Long Distance running and Pole vault. The week was supervised by 21 coaches and athletes from the club. Startrack is a scheme that introduces children to athletics. Paddock Wood A.C has been hosting the event for the last 22 years and the club holds the record for the longest running of the event in the UK.
The week culminated in competitions, with every participant doing a run, jump and throw to earn points for their team. Then each team took part in the obstacle relay. The teams this year were named after places that have held the World Championships over the past years. The winning team this year was Berlin. There were also trophies for the top boy and girl in each age group. The winners in the 6/7 age group were Dillon Dew and Lucy Tallon. In the 8/9s Harry Griffiths, who had won the younger age group last year, was a winner plus Ella Root. Keeping it in the family George Griffiths won the 10/11 boys competition with Lexi Gentry-Potter winning for the girls. William Cunningham won the oldest age group with Georgiana Crawley. The winning team was Berlin with Paris in 2nd place.
Next year Startrack will be held on the new track at Putlands
