PWAC Press Report – 17th July 2018

It was the 4th match in the Southern Athletics League on Saturday where Paddock Wood AC athletes travelled to the David Weir Centre at Carshalton. With no Folkestone athletes coming it made for a very small team, but there some good performances.  U17 Kimberley Garcia ran a PB in the 100m (13.2s), came 2nd in the 200m (21.1s) and did the triple jump for the first time 9.06 to finish 2nd . W35 Elizabeth Duffin threw a seasons best hammer 23.19m, came 2nd in the javelin 21.25m, covered the shot, discus and B triple jump. M55 Mark Woods claimed 2 PBs in the Javelin 28.24m and the discus 25.08m and threw 18.45m in the hammer all senior weights.  M60 David Perman, also throwing above his age group competed in the B string shot, hammer, discus and javelin finishing 2nd in three of the events. U20 Fin Hollyer jumped 4.93m in the long jump, 9.61m in the triple jump and ran the 200m (26.3s) a season’s best.

On Monday night Paddock Wood athletes were at the final Southern Masters League match of the season at Gillingham. W45 Fiona Townend in her first ever track experience came to do the W35 100m finishing 2nd (17.00s) and 800m3rd (3.16.3s) but ended up doing the long jump and discus as well. She was 2nd in the long jump 3.12m and 3rd in the discus 10.09m. W55 Julie Woods had 3 good 1st places in the W50 100m (18.5s) the long jump 2.83m and the discus 12.12m. W70 Janet Duffin did the W60 discus finishing 3rd with 6.98m. The ladies finished 3rd on the night and 3rd for the season.   M55 Mark Woods competing in the M35 age group fished 2nd in the 100m (12.9s), won the discus and was 3rd in the long jump 4.02m. M50 Trevor Simms won his 100m (13.5s). M50 Trevor Crysell won the long jump 4.60 and came 3rd in the  discus 17.22m. He ran in the B M35 100m (14.1s). David Perman competed in the M60 long jump and gained extra points which kept the club up into 4th place for the night, beating Bexley B and Sevenoaks by 1 point. Paddock Wood AC fished 3rd for the season.

The previous weekend, another hot day saw Paddock Wood AC younger athletes at the Kent Young Athletes league match, staged at the Julie  Rose Stadium Ashford. The club is in a combined team with Folkestone RC. It was essential to do well this match to keep the Division 1 team out of the bottom 2 to avoid relegation next season.

The day started well in the 70m hurdles with U13 Jessica Penny gaining an equal first place time (12.4s) but was given second place overall. Jess made up for it by winning the high jump 1.30m. Jessica Rayner ran a PB in her 1200m race (4m 33.8s).  In the U13 boys Joe Stone ran a PB in the 100m (13.7s), came 3rd in the long jump 4.20m and 3rd in the javelin 25.83m. Liam O’Neil ran (5m18.3s) in the 1500m, did the high jump for the first time 1.15m and threw the javelin 16.69m. In the U15 boys Alex Stone came 2nd in the javelin 26.20m, threw 20.49m in the discus and came 3rd in the shot 8.03m. Alex Gray, back from injury, ran the 100m (12.4s) a PB and jumped another in the long jump 4.75m. Harvey Fordham having problems with an injury could only jump 1.45m in the high jump and 4.17m in the long. He made up for it by running both the 4x100m relay and the 4x300m relay. Charlotte Whiffen won the U15 girls hammer 34.01m, did the shot 6.10m and tried her hand at discus 13.74m. Lauren Harker ran a PB in the 1500m (5m 37.9s) and jumped 3.45m in the long jump to gain valuable points. Rosie Elspass jumped 1.35m in the high jump and ran the 100m (14.4s).

In division 2  U13 Emma Townend ran a PB in her 1200m (5m 01.4s), another in the 70m hurdles (16.2s) and (25.4s) in the 150m race. Kiera Conrad-Pickles also did the hurdles (16.7s) the 150m (24.6s) and the 75m (13.0s). In the U13 boys Jacob Kemmitt ran the 1500m (5m.48s). Jacob was joined by Felix Wright (5m 51.6s) Felix also did the javelin for the first time 12.72m. Thomas Harker came 2nd B string in the javelin 12.47m jumped 2.87 in the long jump and threw 10.65m in the discus. Mathew Oaks came 4th in the long jump 3.19m and ran the 200m (34.0s). All four boys ran the 4x100m relay. U15 Aiden O’Neil ran a PB in his 100m (13.9s) did another PB in the long jump 3.64m and ran the 300m for the first time (48.9s)  The division 1 team finished 6th on the day with the combined age groups. The Division 2 team were 6th.
