PWAC Press Report – 5th September 2018

The previous weekend saw Paddock Wood AC athletes of all ages attend the Dartford open meeting and U13 Pentathlons, using the meeting as a basis for the club champs, which are usually held at Tonbridge. U13 Jessica Penny came 4th in the Girls Pentathlon just 10 points off a medal. Jess performed below her usual standard, coming back from holiday the night before. Her long jump 1.21m was 14cm under her PB. Her shot put showed a great improvement with 5m, also her 800m (2m 51s) 11seconds faster than the previous year. Joe Stone represented the boys in this event. Joe achieved 4 PBs. The first in the 75mH (14.61s), the second in the shot 7.55m, the third in the high jump 1.22m and the fourth in the 800m (2m 45.41s). In the long jump he jumped 4.16m. Joe came 6th. This is Joe’s first year as an U13 so shows good potential for next time. The previous day Joe and his brother Alex Stone competed at the Crawley open in torrential rain. Joe won the long jump 4.45m and was 1st in the 200m (29.8s). Alex jumped 4.37m in the long jump and ran the 100m (13.92s).

At the Dartford open meeting U11 Lola Crysell ran PB’s in the 75m (13.05s), another in the 150m (26.48s) and claimed the 3rd in the long jump 3.05m. Also in the same age group Nico Walters claimed PBs in all his events, the 75m (12.26s), the 150m (25.57s) and the 600m (2m11.88s). Henry Simms, in his first ever competition ran the 75m (13.39s) and the 150m (27.83s). U13 Thomas Harker improved on his discus PB by nearly 3 metres 13.31m. John Janse in his first ever track competition did the 75mH (16.01s) and then ran the mile, the only U13 to do it (6m 44.15s). Joseph Hyland also had a good day, running a PB in his 800m (2m 56.83s), jumped another in his long jump 3.42m and then the 100m (16.37s). U15 Harvey Fordham ran (13.77s) for 100m just 2 hundredths off his PB, jumped 4.36m and did the high jump 1.52m. Alex Stone threw a PB in his discus 23.76m ran the 200m (28.67s).Liam Simms  ran the 100m (13.88s)equalling his PB and the 200m ( 28.65s) Maia Hyland threw a PB of over 2.5m in the U15/17W javelin 32.69m a club record for the 500g javelin, she threw another in the discus 24.47m. Charlotte Whiffen couldn’t repeat her club record throw of the previous week threw 33.87m in the hammer and did the shot 6.86m. U17 Kimberley Garcia another returning from holiday the night before was feeling a bit under the weather ran the 200m (29.31s) the 300m (46.93s) and the 100m (13.82s). Max Cornford in his first track meeting for the club ran the 100m (13.73s) the 200m (28.50s) and the long jump 4.30m. U17 Spencer Elphick threw a below par javelin of 31.91m.

W35 Elizabeth Duffin won the Javelin 22.36, threw 14.40m in the discus and 22.91m in the hammer. W50 Niki Whiffen threw a PB in the hammer 24.02m a CR and 6.24m in the shot. Mike Duffin M78 threw the hammer 22.04m and the javelin 19.52m with injury to his right hand. M50 Trevor Crysell who had just come back from the British Masters champs in Birmingham the day before won his 400m (63.54s) a PB, in the 200m (28.96s) and in   the long jump he did 4.26m.M65 Les Percival who had also competed the day before in Birmingham where he won a Bronze medal in the 400m, ran it again (69.28s). M65 David Perman threw the hammer 18.21m, the shot 5.22m and the discus 11.18m.
