  • Paddock Wood STARTRACK 2017

Paddock Wood AC held its 28th Startrack athletics week at its track at Putlands. Luckily the weather was kind and the children only had one wet session. It was attended by over 60 children with ages ranging from 6 to 14. They had a chance to try all the various disciplines involved in track and field athletics. Coaches from the club and teenage club members helped for the week. At the end of the week they were divided into 4 teams, these were teams competing in the world championship at the Olympic Stadium. Great Britain, Kenya, Jamaica and USA. The children did a run, jump, and throw to earn points for their team. The last event was the obstacle relay where the teams were able to gain valuable points for the final score. There were medals for the winning team and trophies for the top scoring boy and girl on each age group. Winner of the 6/7/8s group were Jack King & Rebecca Cross. In the 9/10/11s the winners were Joe Stone & Lucy Tallon. The final age group were 12s and over, Isabel Shelley won the girls and Alex Gray won the boys. The winning team was Great Britain from Jamaica, USA came next and then Kenya.   All participants took home a goodie bag. [flickr_set id="72157685383579400"]

  • PWAC Summer 2017 Handicap 5k Event 3 – 16th August 2017

On Wednesday evening we had the delight of 18 runners competing in the third event of the 5K Summer handicap series and the whether was certainly on your side this week, compared to event two!  I hope you’re all beginning to come round to liking the course and the out and back aspect.  It was great to see some new faces taking part and look forward to more in the future. Our scoreboard is starting to build nicely now.  Taking full advantage of the scores this week and coming in first place was Kirsty Jones with 18 points with a well improved time of 28:42.  With just over a minute to spare, second place was achieved in the last 200-300m by Les Stone in 31:02.  The battle for third was well worthy of a photo finish between Jeanette Elliot and a mass of runners fighting for the lead but just pipped at the post by Rob Everitt in 19:49.  Well done Rob on a strong and determined push to the finish line.  A further 11 places (including Birthday boy Ian Sutherland) were taken within the next minute proving that the system is working well and goes without saying it provides a great vision around the track from a spectators angle.  Everyone was home safe and dry well within 40 minutes and 78% of you improved on your previous times.  Well done! My thanks go out to Diana Tilston who completed the whole route herself in order to marshal at the half way turning point  Despite not being able to keep the pace up with the likes of Charles, Diana still managed to get back and finish in plenty of time.  Thank you to Richard Elliot for attending and assisting with the finishing positions.  Just like your local Parkrun, without volunteers we couldn’t make this happen so thank you again, your efforts are very much appreciated. Registration is still open for anyone wishing to take part who hasn’t already.  If anyone has any questions regarding the Summer series, please feel free to come and find me. Happy running folks! John Tilston. [prettyfilelist]

Well the hard work you are all putting into your training is definitely paying off and it showed on the track on Tuesday 1st August. Very very well done to all those that made the effort to take part. We had 1 Platinum standard run and yes it was the machine David Sampson along with 9  Gold standard runs to prove my point. I believe we also had a number of new PBs. Our 4 debutants can also be very proud of their first time efforts. Once the results were age graded the top 3 on the evening showed that age does not matter with David Sampson coming out on top with an age graded score of 80.74% followed in second place by John Tolhurst achieving a score of 74.45% and in third place Penny Roberts with a score of 72.36%. Special mention must also go to Trevor Crysell with a graded result of 71.69% and Mark Wild with a 64.73% result obviously fresh like David from there epic efforts on their Land’s End to John O’Groats bike ride. Thank you must go to John Tolhurst for age grading the results using the latest World Masters Association 2015 tables,  :http://www.howardgrubb.co.uk/athletics/wmalookup15.htmappl and to Nick Brown for looking after the time keeping duties. Hopefully we will see you all again plus a few more of you on September 7th for the next mile time trial.  You can use your mile time to get an approximate 10k time by multiplying your time by 7.2. Richard Elliott, Level 3 Endurance Coach.
