British Masters Athletic Federation National Championships, Birmingham – Saturday/Sunday 9th/10th August 2014

Sue James and Alan Newman represented PWAC at the BMAF National Masters Championships in the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham on the weekend of 9th and 10th August. These championships are open to any athlete aged over 35 and the oldest competitors were Switzerland based 95-year-old Charles Eugster, who won the M90 plus 100m (25.76) and 200m (58.03) for British age-group records and the 1970 Commonwealth Games discus champion, Rosemary Chrimes (81), who won the over-80 high jump (1.06), long jump (2.34), shot (8.34), discus (20.79), hammer (23.87) and javelin (12.40).

The weather was warm and sunny on Saturday for the 400m and 1500m but the remnants of Hurricane Bertha had an adverse effect on times on Sunday for the 800m and 5000m races.
