Athletics Officials Taster Day – 23rd November 2014

Calling All Prospective Officials

Taster Day – There will be a taster day for anyone interested in becoming an official at Tonbridge School on Sunday the 23rd November from 9.30 to 1pm. It is the only taster day I can offer this autumn, with the view to have two L2 courses in the spring, dates still to be arranged. The taster day is primarily for people showing an interest in becoming officials and I hope you can promote this to anyone in your club. The aim will be to have EDM* available, as well as explaining what happens as an official. Please let me know of any names of attendees ASAP. Of course any newer and less newer!!! officials are also welcome to ask questions or get some practical advice.

*Note: For the uninitiated, EDM is Electronic Distance Measuring. Anyone who is a qualified surveyor should have no trouble with this as it is quite easy to operate once it is set up and calibrated. It can be used for all the long throwing events plus Long, Triple and High Jumps as well as Pole Vault. Non-surveyors can also use it.

Please let Mick Duffin know ASAP if you wish to attend and learn something new.

Winifred Buckingham

We regret to announce that Paddock Wood AC’s oldest member, Winifred Buckingham, passed away late on Friday night aged 95. Win was the mother of Janet Duffin, Mother-in-law of Mick Duffin and Grandmother of James and Elizabeth Duffin. Her passing followed a short stay in Pembury Hospital where she had full medical attention but was getting increasingly frail. The Duffin family have been very grateful for the messages of sympathy extended from those members and friends they have seen and been in contact with since Friday. Many Thanks.

Pentathon Cup Results 2014

Congratulations to Maria, who has won this year’s competition with the highest-ever total. Well done also to Claire and Andrew Day, and to Shirley Exall who all competed in all seven distances. The star denotes an age-graded best score, and the ‘winners’ on this front are Shirley Exall and Andrew Day, both with 7 new age-graded bests; clipping at their heels were Nick Brown and John Tilston with 6 new age-graded bests. I believe it is also a record number of members who have competed: a total of 89 this year! Well done and happy running to one and all.                                                               Miriam Dorrity

Age graded update – September 2014

For the benefit of any newer members, the Pentathon Cup is a club competition that runs from September to August every year. Your time for officially measured runs, in any of the 7 distances, is calculated according to a set of tables to give an ‘age-graded’ score. At the end of the year, your total is calculated based on your performances for your best five runs from the given distances, which are: 5k, 5miles, 10k, 10miles, half marathon, 20 miles and marathon. You are automatically included in the competition as soon as you complete a race in any of these distances and the results are displayed on the website.

Happy running!                                                                                    Miriam Dorrity

Pete Buckingham (and band) playing at Olive Stores – 27th September 2014

Pete Buckingham will be performing on the 27th September at the Olive Stores at the Hop Farm. A few from the club have already booked tickets, but he hasn’t been able to see and talk to all the members and would like to make as many people as possible aware of the Olive Stores. If you can’t make it for the gig perhaps you might like to pop down to the Olive Stores one evening or weekend for a bite to eat or drink.

If you would like to go on the 27th the doors open at 7:30pm and tickets are £20 pp including 1st drink and a Pizza, but if you want to see the band only the tickets are £10 pp (including 1st drink) the band will start at 9:30pm.

10% of all ticket sales will go towards the Parkinsons Charity.

Mob Match 2014 PWAC vs Larkfield

Mob Match PWAC vs Larkfield

Just a short message to say a big thanks to everyone who ran or helped out at the Mob Match. Despite a determined effort by arch-rivals Larkfield, Paddock Wood managed to pull out the win by a score of 272 to 72 to retain the ‘still unnamed trophy’ for another year. A number of good performances all round with Gareth Robb and Maria Heslop leading home the pack, (after the so-called race director was disqualified for an, as yet, undecided technicality).

Many thanks to Mike, Jeanette, Zara, Emily and Gill for the timekeeping, and scoring. Thanks also to Richard, Dennis, Andy, Richard, Andy, Phil, Laura, Richard, Claire and Rif for the marshaling. Thanks to Claire and Andrew for help with the venue. Hopefully everyone managed to have at least a mildly enjoyable run, chat and sausage roll in the fading light.

After a few days of complex coding at race headquarters, the results are now on the Results pages of the website.

Many thanks Paul
