Paddock Wood A.C sent Five and a half U/11 teams on Sunday 2nd March to the last Sportshall of the season at Swanley. It was great to get so many out to compete 24 athletes in all.

Star of the day was Samantha Hockey in the U/13 girls 4 lap race. Sam ran the fastest heat beating all the other U/13 girls, Sam also putt a PB in the Shot Putt of 5.10m. She finished 4th overall in the 5 events just 4 points behind 3rd place and 9 points behind 2nd. Erin Frankel’s best event was the Speedbounce where she scored 72 bounces coming 3rd in the event. She came 8th overall. U/15 Mia Morgan came 3rd in her competition with her best event the Vertical jump where she scored 44 cm. Samantha and Erin joined Folkestone to make a team and won medals for the top team. Mia joined Swanley A.C to make up a team which also won medals.

In the U/11 competition in team 1 Oliver Smith teamed up with Harvey Fordham. Harvey came 5th in the Standing Triple with 5.50m with Oliver jumping 5.20m coming 10th. They also did the Foam Javelin with Oliver throwing 12.25m and Harvey 12.00m. They were joined in team 1 by Alfie Morgan and Catlin Dow. Alfie finished 3rd in the Vertical Jump with 44cm. Catlin scored 45 bounce in the Speedbounce. The team finished 5th. Team 4 also finished 5th with help from Nick Frankel in his first Sportshall competition jumping 50 bounces, his partner was Joseph Shepheard who jumped 4.50m in the Standing Triple Jump. Dillon Dew in his first competition for the club came equal 7th in the Vertical Jump with 39cm. He had a good throw in the Soft javelin with 11.50m. Liam Sim threw 8m in the Foam javelin and jumped 36cm in the Vertical Jump. Team 3 came 9th overall. Isabelle Cole also jumped 36cm in the Vertical Jump, her Speedbounce score of 49 bounces earned her 12th place. She was partnered by Zara Evans who jumped 38cm in the Vertical Jump and 44 bounces in the Speedbounce. Connor Kent‘s jump in the Triple Jump scored 4.75m and Hannah Tilson jumped 3.74m.Team 2 were just 4 points behind Team 3. Holly Tapp scored 44 bounces in the Speedbounce and jumped 4.62m in the Triple Jump. Alex Stone jumped 48 bounces in his Speedbounce and scored 4.18m in the Triple Jump. Harvey Kent threw the Foam Javelin 10m, Freya Kirk-Martin threw 7.50m in the Foam Javelin. Team 5 came 15th. Martha Peachy had a great Speedbounce getting 50 bounces which put her in 9th place. Alistair Dow jumped 4m in the triple Jump, Abi Hodgson jumped 4.41m. Eva Wilson made 39 bounces in the Speedbounce and 29cm in the Vertical Jump. Harry Edwards joined an Ashford team and jumped 47 bounces in the Speedbounce and achieved 4.02m in the triple Jump.

Sportshall at Ashford – Sunday 26th January 2014

On Sunday 26th January, athletes from Paddock Wood A.C travelled to The Stour Centre Ashford to compete in the latest round of the County Sportshall Competitions.

The club had 3 full U/11 teams taking part and half of a team due to 2 athletes not turning up. Harvey Fordham easily won the Standing Long Jump with 2.03m, even some of the older athletes cannot jump 2m. Harvey also did well in the ball push finishing 5th with a push of 6m. Harvey’s partner Oliver Smith, in his first sportshall competition, came 5th in the Standing Long Jump with 1.88, giving them maximum points for that event. Oliver joined Harvey in the ball Push coming 8th with 5.50m. Freya Kirk-Martin and Martha Peachy joined the two boys in team one with Freya’s best event being the Speed Bounce where she jumped 45. Martha, in the same event, jumped 40. The team finished 8th. In team 2 Alfie Morgan claimed 5th place in the Vertical jump with 44cm, a PB, his partner Isabelle Cole jumped 34cm. In the Ball Push Alfie managed 4.50m and Isabelle did 4.25m. Martha McCarthy jumped 1.43m in the Standing Long Jump with Harriet Baily in her first ever competition, jumping 1.18m. The team came 10th. Zara Evans and Eva Wilson made up team 3, another two who had not competed before; they did well in the Speed Bounce with Zara doing 46 bounces and Eva 39. Team Four was made up of Alex Stone, Alistair Dow and Catlin Dow. Alex had a good result in the Speed Bounce with 44 bounces. Catlin jumped 37cm in the Vertical Jump with brother Alistair claiming his best event, the Ball push with 4.50m. The team fished 11th out of 20 teams.

In the U/13 age group Samantha Hockey competed in 5 events, her best being the Speed Bounce where she jumped 77, a PB. Toby West claimed three PBs. In the Vertical Jump he did 41cm, his Standing Long Jump 1.89m and his Speed Bounce 62 Bounces. In the U/15 age group Mia Morgan put the Shot 5.22m, jumped 46cm in the Vertical Jump and did 66 in the Speed Bounce.

Everyone did a great job and this experience of competing for the first time was quite daunting for some, but they all had fun which is what Sportshall is all about.
The next County Sportshall is on the 2nd March at Swanley. The regional Final is at Burgess Hill on the 23rd February.

Sportshall at Ashford (inc. Kent Champs.) – Sunday 8th December 2013

On Sunday 8th December junior athletes from the club travelled to The Stour Centre Ashford for the Kent County Sportshall Championships meeting.

The club had 2 U/11 teams and U/13 James O’Gorman and Samantha Hockey and U/15 Mia Morgan. James O’Gorman won 3 medals; he won Sliver in the Vertical Jump with 48cm, Bronze in the Standing Long Jump 2.24m, and Silver in the Shot. Samantha Hockey just missed out on a medal in the Speedbounce with 72 bounces. Sam ran the 4lap race keeping up with girls double her size and possibly a year older. Mia Morgan came 2nd in the 6 lap race earning her a Silver medal.

Unfortunately 2 members of the teams were unable to come at the last minute, so the teams had to be hurriedly revamped. Team 1 consisted of Holly Tapp who teamed up with Alfie Morgan who was competing for the first time. Aiden Johnson partnered Liam Simms. In Team 2 Joseph Shepheard joined Mathew Johnson and first timer Alistair Dow teamed up with Jack Holly also competing for the first time. Alfie Morgan’s best event was the Vertical jump with 42cm Holly Tapp did 37cm. Liam did well in the Speedbounce with 42 bounces and Aiden did 40. In team 2 Joseph Shepheard jumped 1.44m in the Standing Long Jump with Mathew Johnson 1.43m. Jack Holly and Alistair Dow did the speedbounce 34 and 33 respectively. Team 1 finished 23rd out of 42 teams and Paddock Wood 2 came 34th.

The next meeting is on the 26th January 2014 at Ashford again.

Last Sunday was the first of the County Sportshall competitions at St Johns Tunbridge Wells.

There was 1 full U/11 teams and 3 children made up other complete teams with children from Folkestone & Swanley There was only one U/13 boys Toby West who was in his first year as an U/13. Three U/13 girls took part again all moving up this year from the U/11s they were Erin Frankel, Samantha Hockey and Amelia Emmerson. Samantha Hockey Jumped 78 bounces in the speed bounce putting her in the top3 for that event. She jumped 4.90m in the Standing Triple Jump. Erin Frankel came close to Samantha in the Standing Triple with 4.82m and jumped 71 in the Speed Bounce. Amelia’s best event was her Speed Bounce 61 bounces. U/15 Luke Prater in his first sportshall competition for the club found the opposition rather daunting as they were all nearly a year older than him. Luke managed 50cm in the vertical Jump and ran an excellent 2 lap race in (24.3s).U/13 Toby West jumped 5.48m in his Standing Triple Jump and ran (26.1s) for his 2 lap race. Holly Tapp, Harvey Fordham, Emily Shepherd and Joseph Shepheard made up Team A in the U/11s Martha McCarthy, Martha Peachy and Liam Simms helped make up other teams as their 4th member had fractured his arm the day before. Martha Peachy jumped 55 in the Speed Bounce a great result for one so small, to win the event. Emily Shepherd came 2nd in the Vertical Jump with 44 cm. Harvey Fordham jumped into 3rd place in the Standing Long Jump with 1.89m, Holly Tapp jumped 1.68m in the same event. Joseph Shepheard did the Ball throw to come 10th with 5.75. Liam Simms in his first ever competition for the club jumped 30cm in the vertical Jump. Martha McCarthy jumped 40 bounces in the Speed Bounce.

The next competition is on the 10th November at Folkestone.

It was the last Sportshall Athletics meeting of the season at White Oak Leisure Centre, Swanley on Sunday. As it was Mothering Sunday the team from Paddock Wood A.C was slightly depleted, only managing to field one complete U/11 team, but there were some good performances with 4 athletes competing in their very first Sportshall competition. Toby West, one of the first timers, came an excellent 9th in the Vertical Jump with 40cm. This was out of 36 competitors. Yasmin Mayhew and Amelia Emmerson both jumped 33cm in the same competition. Amelia also had a good score in the Speed Bounce with 49 bounces to finish 15th. Erin Frankel was just one bounce behind with 48. All the girls were competing for the first time. Samantha Hockey was the club’s best Speed Bouncer with 52 bounces, taking her into 9th position. Samantha also did well in the Standing Triple Jump 4.82m. Joseph Shepheard was the club’s best Soft Javelin thrower with 10m and Aiden Johnson just behind with 9.25m. The first team finished 9th out of 20 teams.

In the older age Group U/17 Mason Doyle broke his own county record in the Standing Triple Jump with 8.54m, threw 8.24m in the Shot Putt, leapt 71cm in the Vertical Jump and 73 in the Speedbounce. U/15 Robert Latchford gained PBs in all of his events. He jumped 59cm in the Vertical Jump, 6.50m in the Standing Triple Jump, 67 in the Speed Bounce and threw 6.05m in the Shot Putt. U/13 James O’Gorman, who represented Kent in the South East Regional Final and won a Silver medal in the Speed Bounce, threw a PB in the Shot and jumped another PB in the Standing Triple Jump with 5.75m.

Sportshall South East Regional Final, Burgess Hill – Sunday 10th February 2013

Competing for Kent U/13 James O’Gorman competed for Kent in the South East Regional Final Sportshall competition at Burgess Hill. James competed in the Obstacle Relay, the 4X1 relay and the Speedbounce where he won a Silver medal with a PB of 83 bounces. Also competing for Kent in the U/15 all-rounder competition was Robert Latchford. Robert stepped in at the last minute when another athlete was unable to attend. Robert competed in the 2 Lap race, the Standing Long Jump and the Shot where he putt a PB.

On Sunday it was the Kent County Sportshall Athletics Championship held at the Stour Centre Ashford. Due to a broken heating system the hall was extremely cold, but despite this Paddock Wood A.C athletes won several medals. U/17 Mason Doyle won three events outright – the Standing Long Jump 2.72m, the Standing Triple Jump 8.40m and the 2 lap race (21.3s) then tied in the Vertical Jump for the Gold Medal with 68. In the same age group Joseph Holland was equal first in the speed Bounce with 75 bounces. He won Bronze in the 2 lap and 4 lap races but won Gold in the 6 lap. Georgia McCall won all three of her events – the Vertical Jump 53, the Standing Long Jump (2.13m) and the Speed Bounce 73. In the U/15 age group Laura Wellbelove won the 6 lap race. Robert Latchford claimed a Bronze in the Standing Long Jump with 2.41m. U/13 Ruby Haig, in her first Sportshall competition, won a Silver Medal in the 6 lap race. Another first timer, Ella Burgess, came 6th in the Standing Long Jump with 1.89m. Paige Alford came 6th in the Speed Bounce with 73 bounces and 8th in the 4 lap race. Katherine Wilkin, who had missed out on the previous Sportshall competitions, ran the 2 lap race and did the Standing Long Jump 1.78m. In the U/13 Boys James O’Gorman won a Bronze medal in a very competitive speedbounce competition with 71 bounces and also jumped 1.89m in the Standing Long Jump. Richard Spencer jumped 10cm more 1.99m, in the Vertical Jump Richard scored 50 cm. In the U/11s Charlie Brown teamed up with Samantha Hockey, both doing the Speed Bounce and the Vertical Jump and Thomas Hendley and Henry Wysall did the Long Jump and Ball Throw. The team came 18th out of 34teams. Sophie Tallon joined Bexley A.C to make up a team.

Sportshall at Tunbridge Wells – Sunday 7th October 2012

The first Kent County Sportshall Athletics event took place at the St Johns Leisure Centre Tunbridge Wells last Sunday. There were a number of first time athletes taking part in the U/11 age group. Paddock Wood A.C had three U/11 teams taking part, plus some more senior athletes. In the Standing Long Jump Thomas Hendley (Team 2) jumped a PB of 1.78m, which put him in joint 4th place with Liberty Devine (Team 1) who also jumped 1.78m. Liberty did well in the Speed Bounce finishing in 2nd place with 51 bounces out of 31 competitors. Samantha Hockey (Team 1) came 4th in the Vertical Jump with 41cm and 9th in the Overhead Ball Throw with 6m. The rest of Team 1 was made up of Jacob Sharman (1.65 in the Long Jump) and Cameron Routledge whose best event was the Vertical Jump. In Team 2 first timer Sophie Tailon had a good result in the Vertical Jump with 43cm. Aidan Johnson, who has only been coming to the club for 2 weeks, competed in the Overhead Ball Throw and Vertical Jump. Henry Whysall helped boost the team’s points taking part in the Vertical Jump and Overhead Ball Throw. Mathew Exall (Team 3) had a great result in the Standing Long Jump, leaping 1.58m. Great friends Scarlett Bonner–Leney and Rosie Aylett both covered the Speedbounce and Joseph Shepheard, who was the 4th member of the team, had a good throw in the Overhead Ball competition and jumped 1.40m in the Standing Long Jump. Overall Paddock Wood 1 were 6th, Paddock Wood 2 were 12th and Paddock Wood 3 were 13th. In the older groups Alfie Stemp in his first year as a U/13 was 3rd in the Vertical Jump with 51cm, had the 3rd best run of the day for the 2 lap race (23.8s) and overall came 6th with 661 points. In the U/15 Girls Laura Wellbelove came 11th overall with 552points, her best event being the Speedbounce with 68. Robert Latchford in his first ever Sportshall came a creditable 5th overall with 638points. He jumped 6.17 in the Standing Triple Jump to earn 3rd place in that event. Georgia McCall won the U/17 Girls match with 718points. Her best event was the Speedbounce of 76 which gave her 179 points. Mason Doyle won his U/17 event with 896 points, setting a new County Record in the Standing Triple Jump with 8.46m metres. He ran the fastest 2 laps of the day in (20.7s).
