Firstly a thank you to the 18 runners and the supporters (especially our photographers Robin and James) that turned up at a very very cold and sometimes wet Minnis Bay.
But a BIG thank you must go to Andrew Day who came along to support Claire and also brought thier son William and the new club tent, He even supplied tea and coffee after the race to all our runners. The tent definitely gave the club a focal point and along with the drinks helped lift the spirits on the day. Thank you Andrew.
Due to it being high tide the race started this year on the grass adjacent the car park and the route (just over 5 miles) took the runners through at least 5 deep dykes with water waste high along with the normal thick black mud, before coming back over the very slippery mounds close to the coastal path. Some of the runners probably took more of the mud home with them than they would have wished, and I expect some washing machines and showers worked extra hard Sunday afternoon.
We had one junior runner Dylan Dew who definitely did not enjoy the experience unlike Keeley Hoad who really enjoyed the main race and is benefiting from marathon training.
Now the Bad and Good News
The bad news, we did not have a full compliment of men out and so we did not have a full scoring team.
Disappointing to say the least, guys where were you!!!
The good news our ladies team Claire(2nd lady) Sarah (5th lady) and Emma (12th lady) finished in 1st place on the day and are now in 2nd place in the league, with a good chance of the ladies winning the league with only one race to go.
Colin Tricker finished in 4th place overall, Claire Day finished 2nd lady and Alan Newman 57th (who is getting back to full fitness) 1st M60, Sue James 52nd lady (1st F60) all with a chance of winning an individual prize.
Vanessa Hollamby finished in 288th place 74th lady after taking a nasty fall. and I am happy to report she left Minnis Bay smiling if hobbling.
We had excellent performances from all our runners and you can see those that are benefiting from marathon training.
The PWAC combined team finished in 9th place on the day and are now 6th in the league.
The full results can be found at http://kfl. canterburyharriers.org/xc_ result.php?id=5864
For your info the next race is at Rough Common Canterbury on 8th February and this will be Rob Brights last race as the leagues coordinator after 20+ years the end of an era, but it will not be the end of the KFL. The league will carry on as normal.
Lets finish this season with a flourish at Rough Common (along with a full team) and hopefully our ladies will win the league and a number of our members will also win individual prizes when the awards are presented at the end of the season.
Just one more thing I have somebody’s spikes, that where left in our tent and will return them to there rightful owner at training this week.
Regards
