PWAC Press Report – 11th July 2017

With the smallest team of the season Paddock Wood AC travelled to Lewes on Sunday for the 4th match in the Southern Athletics League. Due to holidays, DOE trips and the Anniversary Games at the Olympic Park, it was left to 2 ladies and 4 men to compete. Sam Hockey claimed 2 PBs finishing 2nd in the 200m (28.3s) and in the Long Jump 4.23m. She ran (13.4s) in her 100m just shy of her PB. Charles George came 2nd in the 1500m in a PB time of (4m 31.8s). Nadir Raveh came 2nd in the 100m (11.7s) and ran the 200m (24.00s). U17 Fin Hollyer did not come to compete as he had an accident on his bike the day before, so came to help. The temptation was too great to compete so he did the Triple Jump, jumping a creditable 10.20m. M55 Mark Woods covered as many events as he was able to. The 100m (13.4s), the Discus 20.62m, the Shot 7.83m, Hammer 15.77m and the Javelin 22.48m. Team manager Elizabeth Duffin threw 23.17m in the Hammer, 21.95m in the Javelin, the Shot 6.02m, and the Discus for which we have no result. The last match is at Hastings in August so hopefully the club will have more athletes going.

The previous Friday saw the club at Erith track for the Southern Counties Masters League. Due to work commitments and injures the usual full men’s team was slightly depleted. M60 Les Percival dropped years to run 400m (69.0s) as an M35 and filled gaps in the M50 Triple Jump and Hammer before running the relay. Trevor Simms just made it through the M25 traffic jams to run the 400m (64.9s). All-rounder Mark Woods covered the M55 Pole -Vault, the Hammer, the 400m (60.9s), the Triple Jump and ran the 4x400m relay. Alan Newman claimed an excellent 2nd in the M60 3000m. M75 Mike Duffin competed in the M60 hammer (18.83). In the ladies team W35 Elizabeth Duffin had 3 wins in the Hammer, the High Jump and the Triple Jump. W50 Julie Woods had 2 wins throwing a massive PB in the W50 Hammer 14.87m, and in a tight 400m race just pipped the Bromley Vets athlete on the line. W65 Sue James, our sole 3000m, runner came 2nd in the W60 race (15m 06.2s).
