Just two athletes from Paddock Wood AC competed in the Kent Count Champs at the weekend, partly due to missed deadlines on entry and illness. But both came away with a medal. With the blustering wind, all throwers were down on PBs.W40 Elizabeth Bignell claimed a silver medal coming 2nd with a below par throw of 21.56. In her first year as an U20 and throwing a 600g javelin, U20 Maia Hyland also won a silver in her Javelin event with 29.97.
Elsewhere Ben Hepden and Ian Sutherland ran the Maverick Surrey event, held at Loosely Park Guildford Surrey. Runners had the choice of 3 routes 22km, 11km and 6km trail races. Mainly through ancient woodlands and along the North Downs way. In the M40 category Ben and Ian both ran the 22km route in which they finished 32nd 1:48:39 and 34th 1:48:41 respectively. Ellie Parks took the 11km option finishing in a time of 1:15:45.
There were better conditions on Sunday when Kim Stanley took part in the Maidstone 10k River Run event finishing in 11th place in a time of 49:15m, good enough to place him 1st in the 60+ Veterans category.
