PWAC Press Report – 11th September 2023

The Kent Relay Championships were held on Sunday at the Julie Rose Stadium Ashford as well as the Masters Championship jumps. Paddock Wood AC had two teams entered. The U13 girls’ team made up of Ellen Simmons, Jola Fasakin, Lucy Burrows-Cloude and Kathleen Knight Misson came 2nd in their heat to qualify for the final 57.1s. In the final they came 5th   57.4s a great achievement against the bigger Kent clubs. Our senior men’s team with U17 Benji Folley, U20 Alex Stone, Ale Gray and U23 Jason Davis qualified for the final in their heat, with a fastest looser time 46.5s. They came 5th in the final 47.1s but moved up to collect the bronze medals, as two teams ahead of them got disqualified. Also on Sunday M60 Teresa Hinton competed in the long and triple jump claiming a silver medal in the triple jump 6.82m and a bronze in the long jump 2.89m. M55 Trevor Crysell got a silver medal for his 4.47m in the long jump, a bronze medal in the triple jump 8.76m and came 2nd in the pole vault 1.60m. M40 Elizabeth Bignell equalled her PB in the pole-vault 1.80m coming 2nd.

The previous weekend Ian Sutherland ran the Big Half in London 1hr 34m.09s. Ellie Parks completed the course in 3hr 02m13s.Steve Wright was further afield running the Isles of Stockholm Half Marathon 1hr 22m 17s. Last weekend Matt Botten and Daren Hendley travelled north to take part in the Great North run Matt finished in 1hr 32m35s and Darren 1hr 59m 29s avoiding the heavy rain which started about 4pm. Finally last weekend Chris Bosworth took part in the Rye Ancient trails 30K. This multi terrain run takes the runners through the High Weald area of outstanding natural beauty in East Sussex he completed the event in 3hr 42m 26s.
