PWAC Press Report – 12th July 2022

Two athletes from Paddock Wood AC travelled to Sport City Manchester at the weekend for the English Schools Championship. U15 Harriet Court unfortunately had to compete in her javelin competition at Longford with hardly any spectators and no atmosphere whatsoever. Throwing a PB in the 2nd round Harriet was in 2nd place until the last throw where she was overtaken and had to settle for 4th place with 39.48m a PB. U20 Harvey Fordham didn’t have a good day, failing his first round jump he could only manage a height of 1.77m nearly 20cm off his PB.

At the Medway and Maidstone open meeting at Medway Park on Sunday 2 first timers to competition on a track took part. U11 Ellen Simmons came 2nd in her heat of the 75m 11.92s she ran her 600m 2m16.03s and jumped 2.96m in the long jump. In the same age group Amelia Chapman ran the 75m in 13.26s, the 600m 2m 26.19s and jumped 2.95m in the long jump.U13 Kathleen Knight Misson came 2nd in her 75m 11.05s and 3rd in her long jump 3.49m. U15 Alfred Everitt ran a PB in his 1500m 4m 57.0s. M70 David Perman won his shot 4.97m and the hammer 18.31m.

A very warm day again this year with extra water stations laid on to accommodate demand. A fantastic turnout of 18 club members for the Staplehurst 5 miles race. New and returning faces boosted the team with Rachel Bremner making her debut in club colours and Melissa Fems returning to the fold after a broken collar bone A very strong ladies squad stormed home to take the team trophy with 1st, 4th and 5th place finishes for Jacqui O’Reilly 33.26m, Lisa Reid 34.15m and Harriot Sinclair 34.53m respectively, with Harriot winning the V50 female category, David Sampson the V60 male category 35.02m, and Mick Barstow the 2nd V60 34.45m. John Tolhurst 2nd V65 35.02m. Terry Grimwood took the V75 category 50.50m. Overall first home for the club in 15th place was Michael Gibbs 30.52 with Daniel Grimwood close behind in 16th position 31.13m.

Also at the weekend it was the Sevenoaks 7 a scenic 7 mile traffic free multi terrain event through the beautiful but challenging Knole Park. Mike Walter came home in 32nd place 46.51m. Dave Lawrence 35th 47.17m and Colin Castle 104th 54.14m.

The previous Tuesday it was the Tonbridge AC open evening.M60 Mark Woods won his 100m with a season’s best performance 12.96s.W35 Jacqui O’Reilly ran the 800m 2m 37.63s.U15 Alfred Everitt ran the same distance 2m 24.52s a PB. U20 Alex Stone jumped 5.40m in his long jump to win the event. V70 David Perman threw the discus 11.76m and the shot 4.99m. First in both events.
