PWAC Press Report – 14th June 2022

On Sunday Paddock Wood AC were at the second match in the Southern Athletic League held at Medway Park Gillingham. In the men’s match U20 Alex Gray won both his triple and long jump, with a PB leap of 6.22m in the long jump and 12.81m in the triple. There was a win for Harvey Fordham in the high jump 1.88m. Harvey also did the discus 23.83m a PB. U20 Alex Stone threw the senior 800g javelin 37.78 and jumped 5.42 in the non-scoring long jump. Mark Woods and Trevor Crysell who had such good results the day before at the British Masters Champs travelled from Derby to compete in the match. Trevor won the B triple jump 9.10m, and jumped 1.75m in the pole vault. Mark Woods was 2nd in the B discus 21.86m, and, put the shot 7.08m. He finished 2nd in the B discus 21.86, threw the javelin 19.48m and the hammer 16.44m.  M40 Mark Ryan came 2nd in the shot 9.43m and threw the hammer 23.45m both PBs. U23 Harry Young came and ran the 1500m 4m 43.41s.There were just 3 ladies competing. But between them covered all of the field events. With W40 Elizabeth Bignell and W 60 Teresa Hinton covering 6 events each. Elizabeth cleared 1.50m in the pole vault to finish 2nd, she threw 25m in the hammer, put the shot 6.37m a seasons best, threw the javelin 23.11m, jumped 6.08m in the triple jump, and threw the discus 14.93m. Teresa Hinton jumped 1.03m in the high jump just to get a point, put the shot 6.44m then tried the hammer for the first time and threw 16.29m. In the javelin she scored 12.42m, in the discus 11.82m. Finally she jumped 2.94m in the long jump. U17 Molly Rein completed the small team running the 100m 14.3s, jumped a PB in the triple jump 8.75m and the long jump 3.48m. At the Invicta Open meeting at Canterbury on Monday M70 David Perman was 1st in M70 shot 5.03m and 1st in his hammer 17.17m.

Also on Sunday it was the 5k and 10K races at Staplehurst. There were some excellent results with Paddock Wood AC claiming 5 of the top places in the 5K with Mat Botten coming home in 2nd place 17m 59s, in 3rd place was Michael Walters 19m 57s 1st V35,4th Tom Livesey 19m 04s 1st senior man , Dave Lawrence was the 5th man home 19m 07s 1st vet 45. Jackie O’Reillly 1st V 35 2nd lady 20m 20s. Followed closely by Harriet Sinclair21m 94s 1st V 45. 3rd lady home.  19th Petros Bades 23m.47s 34th Tony Grimwood 29m 15s 1st vet 75 and Maggie Hoad 54th 37m 38s 1st V 65.


In the 10K race Tomas Vnucak finished 4th 37m 12s 1st V35, Wayne Balmer came 5th 38m 07s 6th was Michael Gibbs 39m21s. John Tolhurst claimed the V65 place coming home in 27th place 44m 15s, and Shannon O’Reilly was 48th 46m 10s. Tomas, Wayne and Michael took the men’s team prize.


On Saturday at the Kent School’s championships at Gillingham Harriet Court won the junior girls javelin with a Championship Best performance throw of 37.53m a PB and came 2nd in the shot 9.00m. Year 7 Tilly Ryan won a silver medal in her javelin 18,55m Molly Rein competed in the long jump leaping a PB 4.01m and Sister Megan jumped 3.47m in her junior event.
