Paddock Wood AC had a variety of ages taking part at the weekend in the Kent U13 and Masters Championship held at Erith Bexley. Amid the sunshine and showers the club came away with good results over both days. In the U13 Champs Harvey Fordham qualified for the final of the 100m after running (13.75s) in the 3rd heat, then went on to run (13.83s) in the final. Alex Gray also qualified for the final running the same time as Harvey (13.75s) in heat 1, unfortunately Alex suffered an injury as he ran and had to jog across the line to finish last. This meant he could not come back the next day to run the 200m, his preferred event. Harvey went on to the Long Jump where he won a Silver medal with his first jump of 4.65m. He jarred his ankle on his 2nd jump which made him retire from the event. Again, this meant that he might not be able to compete in the High Jump the following day. Thanks to some strapping from Osteopath Elizabeth Duffin he was able to jump the next day and won another Silver medal jumping 1.46m. Alex Stone arrived at the meeting to be told that some of his events might be cancelled due to lack of officials. Luckily enough people came forward and all the events went ahead. Alex ran the 100m in a PB time of (14.41s) then ran another PB in the 200m (30.00s). Alex found himself dashing between the Long Jump and Discus as both were at the same time. This meant that he missed some jumps, but even so he came 5th with 4.07m. In the Discus he finished 8th 17.84m and was 6th in the Javelin 24.87m. Lucy Tallon, in her first year as an U13, ran a PB in the 70mH (13.30s) to qualify for the final which she ran in (13.81s) fishing 7th. Also on the Saturday she ran the 150m coming 3rd in the heat (21.81s). On Sunday she ran the 75m coming 2nd in heat2 (10.94s) to qualify for the final which she ran in (10.57s) coming 6th. In the Long Jump she came 5th 4.26m.
In the Masters championship the club gained 2 Kent Champions with W35 Elizabeth Duffin wining the Javelin 22.41m and David Perman the M60 Hammer with a PB throw of 18.96m. M70 Mick Duffin lost his Championship title from the previous 2 years coming 2nd in the Javelin with 22.83m hampered by a muscle pull but still a season’s best. The previous weekend Trevor Crysell competed in the Masters Jumps Champs held at Norman Park where he won a Silver medal in the Triple Jump with a PB of 9.55m and another Silver in the Long Jump 4.69m.
