Paddock Wood AC hosted their 31st Startrack Athletics week, held at their track at Puntland’s leisure centre. Over 60 children with ages ranging from 6 to 15 years. Each day they had to chance to try all of the athletics events including high jump hammer and javelin. On Thursday the children were divided into 4 teams all named this year from cities which have hosted the Commonwealth games in the UK. Cardiff, Manchester Glasgow and of course Birmingham. Each child then competed in a run, jump and throw to earn points for their team. On Friday afternoon teams went head to head in an obstacle relay to add to the total scores. Glasgow took the team prize 1510 pts, Cardiff were 2nd 1454pts Birmingham 1237pts and Manchester 1080pts.Thomas Keeping scored 107 points wining the boys 6/7 category and Poppy Austin the girl 67 pts. In the 8/9 ages Otto Hemming took it for the boys 126 pts and Lola de Palacid Q from Spain 117pts won the girls. 10/11s was won by Jonah Fernandies with 109 points and Kelsie Allcorn for the girls 138pts. It was a close thing in the 12 plus group with Harry Lenham wining with 160pts with William Hirst close behind. Indiana Walker took the girls 191 point.
M70 David Perman competed in the Cambridge harriers open meeting on Wednesday evening of the previous week coming 1st in the hammer 18.31m
Last Friday was the final match of the Kent Vets league at Central Park, Dartford. Once again Paddock Wood AC had a strong men’s team in division 2.
The evening started well for the men with wins in the 100m for M50 Trevor Simms 14.0s and M40 Andrew Caldwell.12.6s. M60 Mark Woods ran the M35 race to finish 2nd 12.9s.The winning streak continued in the 3000m with a win for David Sampson in the M60 race 11m 08.4s. M40 Wayne Balmer was 2nd in his 3000m race 10m 35.2s. Caldwell went on to win the triple jump 10.18m. M55 Trevor Crysell won the M50 triple jump 9.16m and Mark Woods won the M60 8.04m.
The women, who only had a team of three, were strong in all the events. With the women multi eventing and gaining wins in the discus for W40 Elizabeth Bignell 17.05m a SB and W60 Teresa Hinton 14.18m, Teresa won her triple jump 6.01m. Elizabeth was 2nd 6.73m, they both ran the 100m an event Elizabeth has not done for several years. There was a solid run from W35 Jaqueline O’ Reilly in the 3000m 12m 20.1s to claim 2nd place.
All that was left was the 100m relay and PWAC closed the evening with another first place, with Caldwell Simms Woods and Crysell making up the team. With the men winning the meeting and the women finishing second, meant that both teams finished second overall and have gained promotion into Division 1 next year.
