Despite only being a small team Paddock Wood AC came away with several wins in the Southern Athletics League match at Tooting Bec on Saturday. In sweltering heat W35 Elizabeth Duffin had three wins to her name – the Hammer 23.01m, the Javelin 24.02m and the Discus 14.80m. She also claimed a 2nd in the Shot. U/17’s Samantha Hockey and Lilly Ebsowrth both ran the 100m and 200m. Sam ran a PB in the 100m to win the A race in (13.4s) whilst Lilly made it a clean sweep wining the B race (13.8s). In the 200m, where Sam claimed a PB, winning the B race in the (13.8s). Lilly ran the same time to finish 2nd in the A race. Lilly competed in the Triple Jump for the first time jumping 8.77m to come 3rd and Sam came 3rd in the Long Jump 4.12m. In the men’s events Finn Hollyer had a win in the Triple Jump 10.47m, finished 4th in the Long Jump and ran (12.7s) in the 100m. Leon Depreli, competing for the first time for the club, ran the 100m (12.3s), then the 200m (25.5s) then jumped the Long Jump 4.73m. The triple jump is his preferred event, but it was too late for him to stay. The throws were taken care of by M55 Mark Woods and M60 David Perman. David put a PB in the Shot throwing the senior men’s shot 4.72 to claim 2nd place in the B String whilst Mark put 8.15m in the A match. In the Hammer, Mark threw 17.30m, David threw 13.90m to win the B event. In the Javelin Mark threw 22.32m and David, throwing this weight for the first time, came 3rd B with 8.93m. The pair took on the Discus with Mark throwing 18.84m and David 10.77m. The club finished 1 point behind Thanet AC.

Top results in Men’s Division 1 were M55 Mark Woods in the M50 200m (26.0) equal time with a Dartford runner but Mark was given 2nd place. Les Percival’s win in the M60 high jump 1.15m. Les, after trying various techniques off both good and bad leg in warm up, surprised himself by finishing equal first. M50 Trevor Crysell competed in the 200m (29.0s) with Trevor Simms (27.2s). Crysell also took part in the M35 high jump competition 1.30m and he ran 1500m as 2 other athletes were unable to come (5:37.4). M60 Alan Newman ran the M50 1500m. Elsewhere, Trevor Simms took up the Javelin for the first time since his school days throwing 20.64m; Les Percival was third in the M60 200m (29.4) Mark Woods covered the High Jump, the Javelin, the Shot Putt. M65 David Perman covered the M35 shot and M75 Mick Duffin in the M60 Javelin took 3rd place with 20.35m.
In the Women’s Division 2 match our three heroines finished second behind Bromley Veterans and well clear of Ashford. W35 Elise Rendall made what is expected to be her only SCVAC league appearance a winning one, with maximum points in the W35 200m (34.3); 1500m (6:00.3) and Javelin (18.70) plus second in Shot (5.20). W55 Julie Woods won the W50 200m (39.4) and added points from the Shot and Javelin while W65 Sue James returned from an enforced rest to receive back treatment to win the W60 200m (42.8) and take second place in the W50 1500m.
