PWAC Press Report – 21st August 2023

Paddock Wood AC athletes travelled to the K2 stadium at Crawley on Saturday for the last in the Southern Athletics league matches. In a combined team with Folkestone RC the club finished 3rd on the day but second overall for the season. U20 Alex Gray won the A string  long jump 6.86m and the triple jump 12.59m and Alex Stone won both of the B strings with  12.11m in the triple jump and 5.43m in the long jump. Alex went on to win his javelin 36.02m. U23 Jason Davis rana PB in his 100m 11.7s coming 2nd, he was 3rd in the 200m 24.4s. M60 Mark Woods ran the B 200m 28.2s. SM Harry Young ran a PB in the 5000m 17m23.0s. M50 Steve Wright joined Harry in this race running it in 18m 23.1s.Steve also ran the 400m 69.8s the 1500m 5m15.8s and the 800m 2m 37.1s PB. First time competing this season U17 Aaron Miller jumped a PB in the high jump 1.55m coming 2nd and U20 Harry Trimmer wining the B string 1.45m. Both did a non-scoring long jump Harry jumped 4.77m and Aaron 4.40m. M70 David Perman again gained valuable points for the club competing with a much heavier weight in the hammer 11.72m a PB with the 7.26k hammer and was 3rd in the shot. The 4 x 100m men’s relay team of Woods, Gray, Stone and Davis   claimed a new club record 47.7s.Steve Wright joined three Folkestone athletes in the mixed 4 x 400m relay 4.50.4s.

W40 Elizabeth Bignell did her usual multi events. Competing in the pole vault first, equalling her PB 1.75m, from there straight to the hammer 21.57m, as this finished over to the shot 6.02m. From there to the javelin 29.82m, then the triple jump 6.34m the final field event the discus 15.91m. She then ran a leg of the 4 x100m relay with three girls from Folkestone. W60 Teresa Hinton won the B hammer 17.69m and did the shot 6.36m. The previous Wednesday David Perman competed in the Cambridge Harriers open meeting at Sutcliffe Park throwing his correct weight hammer 17.29m. On the same day Steve Wright ran the Clapham Common 10K race finishing 8th overall and 2nd in the M50 category 38.42m.
