It was the first league meeting of the season and Paddock Wood AC athletes travelled to Norman Park, Bromley for the Southern Athletics league (13th April). The day was cold with snow and hail storms, but there were some good results.
U17 Charlotte Whiffen in her first year in this age group threw the 4kg hammer for the first time in competition and broke a club record with a throw of 30.55m to come 2nd. W50 Mum Nikki also threw a PB with a 4Kg 21.17m. They also competed in the shot together Nikki put 5.85m and Charlotte 5.72m. W35 Elizabeth Duffin tried her hand at pole-vaulting for the first time and gained maximum points, she also did the discus 14.52m, the javelin 20.54m, the long jump, high jump and 100m hurdles. Rosie Elspass won the long jump 4.28m was 4th in the high jump with 1.35m and she ran the 100m in 14.44s. Kimberley Garcia won the triple jump 9.02m but due to the track running late she only got the one jump in this event. Kimberley ran the 200m (29.9s) and the 100m (14.03s). Garcia, Elspass, Duffin and Charlotte Whiffen ran the 4x100m relay to come 2nd (58.23s) just over 1 second off the club record.
A rather depleted men’s team covered as many events as they could with M55 Mark Woods and M50 Trevor Crysell covering the 200m Mark (27.61s) and Trevor (29.14s). Mark put the shot 7.80m, the discus 17.87, the hammer 18.21m and the javelin 21.47m. Trevor threw a PB in the javelin 24.41m, jumped 4.44m in the long jump and 8.13m in the triple jump. M65 David Perman covered the B throws with 12.61 in the hammer throwing a 7.26k instead of his age group weight of 5Kg, he also did the discus with 10.44m and the shot.
On Easter Monday athletes from the club were at the Norman Fowler Memorial open meeting at Tonbridge. With the weather warm and sunny there were some good performances. Highlight of the day was the performance of Harvey Fordham in the high jump where he cleared 1.80m putting him in the top 4 in the country in the U15 age group. Harvey also jumped another PB in the long jump 5.29m. In the U11 races Alfred Everett ran the second fastest time in the 75m (11.54s) with Nico Walters not far behind with (11.89s). Both competed in the long jump Alfred jumping 3.89m and Nico 3.49m, they also ran the 600m, both getting PBs in all three events.
In the hammer U17 Charlotte Whiffen throwing her correct weight 3kg threw 37.47m, Mum W50 Nikki threw 26.06m with the 3kg weight. M65 Dave Perman threw 16.88m. U13 Joe Stone jumped 4.89m in the long jump but didn’t beat his PB of the day before at Crawley where he jumped 4.95m which was a club record, Joe also did his first pole vault competition jumping 1.90m another club record. U15 brother Alex threw a PB in the javelin 30.18m and another in the discus 24.60m. Liam Simms ran a PB in the 300m (43.59s) and the 150m (19.91s). U15 Jess Penny ran a PB in the 75m hurdles (13.43s) and jumped 1.30m in the high jump. Jess Rayner ran a PB the 1500m (5m 51.98s). Elizabeth Duffin (W35) threw 23.52m in her first hammer throw of the season and 14.64m in the discus, she also did the shot and javelin gaining seasons bests. M50 Trevor Simms ran a PB in both the 150 (20.38s) and the 300m (46.14s). M50 Trevor Crysell also ran a PB in the 300m (45m.9s) and the 150 (21.13s) then he threw the 700g javelin 24.85m a PB. M55 Mark Woods did (19.97s) in his 150m. Kim Garcia ran a PB in the 150m (20.19s) and gained an outdoor PB of 45.70s in the 300m.
