PWAC Press Report – 26th June 2023

There were some excellent results the previous Saturday in the Kent Young athletes league meeting held at Norman Park Bromley. The highlight of the day was the U13 girl’s 4x100m relay, one girl was unable to come due to injury so Racheal Pearce stepped in to make up the team. Racheal ran the first leg and handed over to Kelsie who made up two places Lucy Burrows-Cloude took over and stormed pass everyone to hand over to Kathleen Knight Misson who extended the lead to 10m at the finish  in a time of 56.8s. Kathleen won the long jump 4.10m with Kelsie Allcorn wining the B 3.95m. Lucy Burrows-Cloude won the A shot 7.18m with Kathleen taking the B shot 6.96.Lucy went on to win the javelin13.04m with Rachael Pearce wining the B string 11.52m. Rachel ran the 800m 3m 09.4s.Kelsie Allcorn rana PB in her 75m 11.1s and did the shot NS 5.67m. Kathleen Knight Mission rana PB in her 150m 21.1s.Ellen Simmons ran the B 75m 11.7s the 150m 23.7s and the 70m Hurdles 16.1s also a PB. Abigail Seal in her first ever competition on the track ran the NS race wining it in 11.3s. Max Rein was the only U13 boy competing he ran a PB in his 100m 15.9s another in the 75m H 17.9s and did the long jump 3.46m. Sister U15 Megan ran the 100m 14.3s a PB she jumped another PB in the long jump 3.82m and ran the 75m H 16.5s her third PB of the day. Abigail Palmer jumped 3.07m in the long jump, she threw the javelin 14.53m and competed in she shot for the first time 5.36m. U15 brother Nathan jumped a PB in the long jump 3.47m claimed another PB in the shot 5.96m and threw the discus 13.85m. Thiago Marinez came 2nd in the 199m 12.0s a PB, he ran another PB in the 200m 25.0s and jumped 4.43m in the long jump another PB.

In the extreme heat on Sunday Jennifer Woods competed in the North Downs 30K race finishing 31st overall, 6th lady and 1st in the W45 category in a time of 2hr 33m 35s.Also on Sunday  Ian Sutherland in his quest for ultra runs ran the Isle of White 30 miler. Starting and finishing by the beach on the Ryde Esplanade, the run goes on a wonderful 30 mile ultra-run along beaches, trails and through coastal towns of the beautiful island. Daniel Grimwood ran the Regents Park 10k in 40m 27s wining the M40 category

On Friday night it was another in the Southern Counties masters league, held at Norman Park Bromley. Just 2 ladies were competing in Division 2. W40 Elizabeth Bignell won the pole vault 1.70m and the javelin 20.40m, and came 3rd in the shot 5.77m. She then did the 2K walk in a PB time of 16m28.7s. W60 Teresa Hinton also did the 2K walk 17m30.5s. She won her shot 6.68m came 3rd in the javelin 11.67m. In the men’s division 1 match Steve Wright came 3rd in the 1500m 4m49.5s and he competed in the shot 6.11m. M55 Trevor Crysell threw the javelin 16.60m. M50 Robert Bowie ran the 1500m in 5m 29s and the 200m 29.1s. M65 Les Percival joined Robert in the B race 32.6s.

On Sunday the club just had one athlete competing in the UYDL meeting at Woodford Green. With one athlete having to turn back due to a fault in the car. Another suffering from the results of a dance competition the day before and another doing DOE, it left U20 Harvey Fordham to carry the flag for the club. Harvey won the high jump 1.80m came 2nd in the long jump 5.33m and 3rd in the discus 26.81m.
