PWAC Press Report – 3rd July 2017

Last Sunday junior athletes from Paddock Wood AC travelled to the Julie Rose Stadium at Ashford for the 3rd match in the Kent Young Athletes League joining Folkestone in a combined team. U13 Liam O’Neil knocked over 29s off his previous PB in the 1500m (5m 16.5s) and threw another PB in the Javelin 16.72m. Alex Gray also ran a great PB in the non-scoring 200m to win the race (28.0s) and came 2nd in the B Long Jump 4.08m. Alex Stone won the B Javelin 21.38m, equalled his PB in the Shot 7.27m and threw 17.31m in the Discus – the first time he has thrown this in competition. Harvey Fordham ran a Grade 3 PB in his 100m (13.8s) and equalled his 200m PB time (28.7s). First timer Thomas Harker came 2nd in the B Javelin 14.45m and ran the 1500m (6m 50.2s). In the U13 girls Lucy Tallon jumped a PB in her High Jump 1.30m and ran (10.9s) coming 3rd in the 75m. She jumped 4.07m in the Long Jump. She was joined by Jess Penny in the High Jump who equalled her PB 1.25m coming 2nd B string. Unfortunately, Jess aggravated an injury from a schools match earlier in the week so had to miss the Long Jump. Katie Smith came 3rd in the Javelin 12.65m, her first competition in this event. She came 3rd in the B 1200m (5m 25.0s). In the U15 girls Charlotte Whiffen threw a PB in the Hammer 25.02m to claim 2nd place, jumped a PB in the Long Jump and ran in the 100m (14.6s). Maia Hyland joined her in the Hammer 16.87m, threw 15.54m in the Discus and 5.48m in the Shot Putt. Lauren Harker ran a PB in the 1500m (5m 47.9s) and jumped another in the Long Jump 3.23m. Mollie Dew ran a PB in the 100m (15.3s), Poppy Jury equalled hers (16.3s). Mollie won the B Hammer trying the event for the first time 8.94. Poppy competed in the A string with 9.81m well below her personal best. Harry Smith was the club’s only U15 boy competing and he jumped a PB in his Long Jump 3.78m, ran (6m 16.8s) in the 1500m and threw the non-scoring Javelin 14.75m.
