St Johns leisure Centre Tunbridge Wells hosted the first Sportshall Athletics meeting of the season. Over 100 children took part with ages ranging from 8 to 14 years. Paddock Wood AC had athletes taking part in the U11s and U13s U15s. There was a slightly different format this year with the U11s taking part in all of the 5 fields events but pairs were nominated for their best 3 events for two athlete or 2 events for the other members of the team . Maurice Roberts had an excellent day wining the foam javelin 17m, coming 2nd in the standing long jump 2.03m, 2nd in the vertical jump 47cm. Partner Aaron Brown came equal 5th in the foam javelin 14m and managed 54 seconds on the balance beam to finish 10th he did 51 bounces in the speed bounce. This was out of 57 competitors. The other 2 members of the team were William Hirst and Nico Walters. William’s best events were the balance beam 45 seconds and the speed bounce 44 bounces. Nico managed 47 in the same event and threw 10m in the javelin. The team came an excellent 3rd to claim the bronze medals. Team 2 were Tilly Ryan in her first ever competition for the club and Lucas Mounter who did some Sportshall last season. Tilly threw 10m in the foam javelin and jumped 1.41m in the standing long jump. Lucas jumped 1.45 in the long jump and threw the javelin 9.50m. In the older age Joe Stone won the overall U13 boys competition which is being run in a league form this year, with all results being carried over to the final match in February. Joe won the shot 7.75m, the standing triple jump 6.81m, the vertical jump 53cm and the 2 lap race (22.3s). Lenny Roberts jumped 40cm in the vertical jump and 64 in the speed bounce. In the U13 girls Molly Brown also did well finishing 2nd overall just 12 points behind the leader. She won the shot 6.25m and the vertical jump 53cm she was 2nd in the standing triple 6.36 and 2nd in the 2 lap (22.9s). Abigail Exall finished 5th out of the 21 girls competing with her best event the standing triple jump 6.31m coming 3rd and the 2lap 3rd again (23.5s). Charlotte Parker in her first Sportshall competition finished an excellent 12th jumping 42cm in the vertical jump and 5.23m in the standing triple. The team are currently in 2nd place. In the U15 boys Harvey Fordham jumped a PB in the standing triple jump 7.87m, won the vertical jump 59cm and won the 2lap (22.2s). Alex Stone threw a big PB in the shot 9.50m and ran (22.7s) for the 2 lap race. Harvey is in the lead with Alex 3rd in the overall standings.
