Wednesday saw event #4 of our Summer 5k handicap. Despite the threat of heavy showers we were fortunate to have a reasonable turn out with 14 athletes competing. The fact that we only had light rain may have helped increase the numbers and yet you all came in looking a little damp.
Your times given and achieved are proving remarkably accurate as we had all 14 athletes all on the track at the same time at the end. That’s all 14 within 400m of each other over a 5k distance! 9 athletes improved on their previous times and many of you picked up valuable points to completely change the results table (so far).
1st place was awarded to Charles George in a time of 18:38, followed 16 seconds later, by 2nd place Les Stone in 30:30. 3rd place was nipped at the line with 3 seconds to spare by Daniel Grimwood in 18:58. In less than 2 minutes later the remaining 11 athletes, including our new member Sarah Edwards were all over the line. The absence of Kirsty allowed Jeanette to take joint first place overall so far with only 10 points between the top 8 so the male and female titles are still up for grabs over the remaining events.
My gratitude goes to Diana Tilston who once again made the journey out to the half way point and managed to run back and achieve her first sub 9m/m since coming back from injury, well done Diana. Thank you to Mike Ridger for assisting with the timekeeping and Richard Elliot for aiding with the finished positions. Hopefully the remaining events will be under better weather conditions.
The final event is likely to be bought forward a week due to poor lighting conditions so please keep an eye out for the confirmed dates. Event #5 will be held in 2 weeks time on 13th September. I look forward to seeing many of you there competing for those all important points.
In the meantime, happy running folks!
