Wednesday was the penultimate event for the Summer handicap series. We had a total of 12 athletes compete under blustery conditions which could have been a contributing factor for only 3 improved times this week and they all happened to finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
First to make an appearance onto the track and maintain the lead was Les Stone finishing in 34:03 (29:30) with an improved time by 50 seconds. Second place was taken 42 seconds later by Simon Barker with an 8 second improvement, finishing in 34:45 (24:58). Third was closely taken by Emma Hollands knocking another 3 seconds off her time, finishing in 34:55 (21:20). All 3 will pick up a handicap for the final event.
My thanks this week goes out to Mike Ridger for timekeeping, Richard Elliott for marshalling the half way turning point and Paul Graves for offering his services to help marshal on the route as the nights are drawing in now. Thank you for your support, it’s much appreciated.
Due to the lack of light in the evenings now it has been decided to pull the last event forward by one week to next week, Wed 20th September. The start time will remain at 7pm to ensure all those wishing to take part can still attend.
Looking at the results after 5 events we still have an opportunity for the lead positions to change so don’t feel that after 4 or 5 events it doesn’t matter. Improving your scoring on the final will eliminate a lower score elsewhere or count entirely if you’ve only completed 3 events previously. In other words, its still there for the taking. Good luck!
I Look forward to seeing you next week for the final.
Happy running Folks!
John Tilston.
