On 10 June 2017 we helped at a Reach Paralympic event at Kings Hill Community Centre. Reach is an organisation which helps children with upper limb differences live life without limits. Reach children and their siblings had the opportunity to participate in tennis, football and athletics. Six members of the club helped. Mick and Janet Duffin and Dave Perman as coaches, Richard Harris our club secretary, Penny Roberts our membership secretary and Finn Hollyer one of our athletes.
We only had one hall and one session, we had thought we had two, so there was a change of plans. Deciding to do Long Jump on one side of the hall and the Turbo Javelin the other. We had 16 children some with disabilities and some siblings. We found some excellent talent and hope perhaps some might go on to do more athletics. After swapping half way we ended up with a relay using bean bags for the takeover and reverser boards one end. Everyone had a great time. We have been asked to do the event again next year which will take place at Mascalls School, as the community centre was not really big enough.
