  • KFL Fowlmead – 30th November 2014

Firstly a big Thank You to  both Amanda and Keeley for doing a stirling job as joint Team Managers on Sunday at Fowlmead Deal, well done ladies. From what we hear they were very much appreciated by the 20 PWAC runners that competed and we now have something to live up to. Colin and Claire kept up their fine form to finish 6th man and 2nd lady respectively and where ably supported by Wayne Balmer, Pete Buckingham, Emma Hollands and Jane Drew to mention but a few. Obviously Alan and Sue did not suffer any signs of jet lag and both ran well in weather a little cooler then Cyprus we assume. It’s nice to see another new member (Auria Dee to PWAC and the KFL) competing. Thanks go to all of you that went to the far reaches of East Kent on behalf of PWAC. The Paddock Wood combined team (men and ladies) finished in 7th place on the day. Another excellent performance from the clubs ladies saw them finishing in second place on the day behind host club Deal Tri. This fine performance from our ladies has lifted them 1st place in the overall  team standings and looking good. Our combined team are now in 6th place overall. The full results can be found at http://kfl.canterburyharriers.org/xc_result.php?id=5862 28th December see’s the last KFL race of 2014 at Meopham. I am informed this will be an entirely new course due to changes to the horse paddocks etc, watch this space for further info. For those  of you we will not see before Christmas may we be the first to wish you all a Merry Christmas Best Regards Richard & Jeanette Elliott
  • KFL Oxleas Wood – 23rd November 2014

If you were not at this race where were you ? A proper cross country race in monsoon conditions what was stay away for.

I am pleased to report 18 brave members(10 ladies 8 men) did turn out to race in some pretty horrendous conditions, which I must say at one point was a lot more than I thought would be running for PWAC.

Showing just why she was voted Road Runner of the Year by her fellow members Claire Day put in another impressive performance to win the ladies race by some distance finishing in 71st overhaul place.

Claire was ably supported once again by the ever improving Sarah Shepherd and Emma Holland.  Jane Drew at last got her first ever KFL race.

For the men Colin Tricker also impressed finishing in 5th place, keeping up his fight for a place in the top 3 at the end of the season.

James Ridger is getting back to fitness finishing strongly and it was nice to see Gareth Robb out for his first KFL race of the season who finished a very creditable 21st

Our other new comer to this seasons KFL was Steve Sutton who looked like he enjoyed himself, but you can’t always tell.

9 runners have now competed in every race so far this season so to those 6 ladies and 3 men I must say a very big THANK YOU.

The full results can be found on the http://kfl.canterburyharriers.org/xc_result.php?id=5861  web site.

PWAC finished on the day in 8th place in the combined race (oh for an over 50 male runner, Alan sort your holidays out in future please) with the ladies finishing in an excellent 1st place.

We are now  7th  in the combined team event with the ladies in a brilliant 2nd place

Sorry I will not be at the next race in Deal next Sunday 30th (40th wedding anniversary as some of you might have already heard)

Full race details to follow in the week.

Amanda Hansford and Keeley Hoad will be your Team Managers for the day, please please support them both.

There is a £2 charge to park at Fowlmead, Deal so may I  suggest car sharing is the order of the day with the correct money available on arrival will be a great help

  • Paddock Wood KNC Orienteering – 20th November 2014

Firstly a big thank you to the 12 club members that turned up have a go at Orienteering, along with Janet Duffin who arranged the use of Paddock Wood Primary School.

Must say seeing runners going out from the Primary School brought back some memory’s (the clubs first home when we started out 28 years ago)

As far as I am aware everybody who took part enjoyed themselves along with the event.

Some people sounded keen to have another go. So if you want to try weekend orienteering, Kent Orienteering League events take place once a month in local woods and parks.

There are 4 graded courses, from short with controls on paths, to long with controls in the hardest places to navigated to.

The next one is at Hucking estate between Maidstone and Sittingbourne on Saturday 6th December.

Looking at the Thursday night events, events take place in Tunbridge Wells on Thursday 22nd January and Sevenoaks on 26th Feb.

If people are interested they could email seancronin1001@hotmail.com for more information.

Now to put the results into context, there were some quite fast orienteers there.

Orienteers that go to the bigger events get a national ranking. There are about 5000 people with a ranking.

Paddock Wood Men’s team were ahead of Ian Ditchfield with a ranking of 268th in the country, and only just behind Neil Crickmore, ranked 170th in the country.

So very well done James, Colin and Gareth, along with the other 9 members that turned out.

  • SportsHall Folkestone – Sunday 9th November 2014

On Sunday PWAC had 14 Juniors out in action in Folkestone, there were 5 first timers to the teams who had never competed in Sportshall. The U11’s highest finish was PWAC Team 1 (Mollie Dew, Harvey Fordham, Freya-Kirk-Martin & Alex Stone) finishing a fantastic 4th Place. The PWAC Team 2 (Dillion Dew, Liam O Neil, Elaya Eldridge, Ben Barnett) finished  13th and PWAC Team 3 (Matthew Brown, Joe Stone, Lucy Tallon, Kiera Barnett)  finished 22nd, all in the team were relatively new to Sports Hall. Some fine individual performances include a new U11 record set by Harvey Fordham in the Standing Triple Jump of 6.82. Mollie and Elya also did well with jumps of 5.05 and 4.69 respectively. In the Vertical Jump Dillion was the top PWAC jumping 0.40 and Freya and Lucy were not far behind jumping 0.37 and 0.36 respectively. First Timers Kiera and Liam O Neil impressed with 0.27 and 0.20. Alex was the leading PWAC in Ball Push in 6.00 and in speed bounce Mollie and Ben Barnett were top scorers.

In the U13 Girls competing in all the events. Sam Hockey finished in 6th place with a high finish in the speed bounce, and Elizabeth Walkling who was also another first timer finished a creditable 28th having her best performance in the vertical jump.

Special thanks to all the teams and parents who made the hour trek to Folkestone.

The next Sports Hall is The Kent Championships in Ashford on Sunday 7th December

  • KFL Swanley Park – 9th November 2014

Another excellent turn out, 29 Club members (on the starting line) in the senior race with 4 juniors taking part in the preceding  junior races (2 that where going on to represent PWAC at Sports Hall Athletics in Folkestone later in the day, I bet they slept well on the way home) All wearing poppies.    You should all be proud of yourselves as should the rest of the club.

This is what makes it all worthwhile for Jeanette and myself, THANK YOU.

I am afraid to report only 28 of the 29 finished but I am very happy to report our non-finisher only has battered pride and is ok after a rest and will be back running on Tuesday evening.

At least 1 new comer to the KFL (possibly 2) not the easiest race to start with but a fantastic effort to finish (another complete lap) when all around you are finishing the race.

Must say a big thank you to the supporters that turned out and our faster runners who not only supported fellow runners that they passed during the race but who also went back down the course once they had finished to support  club members finishing.

I know from comments made to Jeanette and myself this was VERY much appreciated.

Fine performances once again from Colin and Claire who finished 8th and  95th (3rd lady) respectively along with 2 of our younger members, Joe who finished in 20th place and Sarah who finished in 115th place (second lady home for PWAC)

The PWAC combined team finished in a brilliant 4th place with the lady’s finishing in an excellent 2nd place. This puts the PWAC combined team in 6th  place after 2 races and the ladies in 5th place.                         BRILLIANT

The fly past of Spitfires and Hurricane before the race started was just the icing on the cake.

Sorry no winners in the after race raffle.

Onwards and Upwards to the next Race, 2  weeks’ time, 23rd November at Oxleas Wood Eltham, here’s to another good turnout. Please note there is no junior race.

    See you there.
