SCVAC League – Julie Rose Stadium, Ashford – 15th May 2017

The stand out performance from the second round match in the SCVAC League at Ashford on Monday (15 May) was the third place achieved in Division 2 by the Paddock Wood women’s team, AKA Julie Woods! Our women’s team now holds second overall, in a promotion position, behind Bromley Veterans and ahead of Ashford AC. Julie collected 15 points from second places in the W50 200m, long jump and discus before politely declining a suggestion that she could run all four legs of the 4x100m relay!

The men’s team continues to struggle with the rarefied atmosphere found in Division 1. Top performances were Mark Woods’ win in the M50 200m (26.7) and Alan Newman’s second in the M60 1500m (5:32.4). Mark mopped up spare points in the M50 long jump and discus before closing the 4x100m relay team that had fought back from an indiscretion with the baton.

Determined efforts were made by Trevor Simms in M35 200m and relay; Trevor Crysell (M50) in M35 200m, long jump and relay; Les Percival in M60 discus (4th) and relay and Dave Perman (M65) with the unfamiliar M35 discus, double the weight and a greater diameter than the implement his age group normally throws. However, the travails of flustered Frenchman, Yann le Roux – who arrived vestless and breathless with ten minutes to spare for his M35 1500m after becoming delayed in London – did not help his points return, despite an impressive time (4:45.7).

The next meeting is a local trip to Tonbridge School on Friday 2nd June, starting at 6:45pm.
