SCVAC League, Kent Division – Normans Park, Bromley – 15th June 2018

The results from Friday night make excellent reading, the Men’s team winning their match by half a point from Cambridge Harriers, this just shows what can be done when all of the events have a competitor. While the Woman’s team came 3^rd in their match. Both the Men’s and Women’s teams are currently in 3^rd place in their respective divisions.

There was 6 PB performances and 3 new club records. Well done to all of the team members.

On the track the evening started with the Women’s 200m races in which Elizabeth Duffin finished 3^rd W35(A) in 38.0s, with Julie Woods 2^nd W50 in 40.7s. Next the Men’s 200m where Mark Woods was 2^nd M35(A) in 26.0s, Trevor Crysell, 2^nd M35(B) in 28.8s. Trevor Simms winning the M50 race in a PB time of 27.9s, while Les Percival was 2^nd M60 in 26.6s.

Next came the 1500m races with Wayne Balmer 2^nd M35(A) race in 4m 47.7s and also a 2^nd place for Robert Everitt in a PB time of 4m 53.6s in the M35(B) race.

The 2000m walks completed the track events. In this event Les Percival said to me mid meeting if there was no one else he would do the walk so after a quick chat and reminder of the rules off he went and finished 1^st in the M35 walk in 13m 17.1s, a new club record for the M60 2000m walk. Trevor Crysell was hot on the heels of Les finishing 4^th in the M50 walk in 13m 18.8s and a PB.

Moving on to the field events. In the Men’s Shot Putt Wayne Balmer was 1^st M35 with a PB putt of 8.39m with Les Percival 2^nd M50 with 7.78m, a new club record for a M60 putting a 6kg Shot. In the Women’s Shot Putt Elizabeth Duffin was 2^nd W35 with 5.68m and Nicola Whiffen 1^st W50 with 6.20m.

In the Men’s High Jump Mark Woods was 2^nd M35 with 1.35m, Trevor Crysell was equal 2^nd M50 with 1.20m and Peter Stennett was 1^st M60 equalling his PB with 1.20m.

Finally on to the Javelin. Starting with two first places in the Women’s event with Elizabeth Duffin 1^st W35 with a throw of 21.39m and Nicola Whiffen 1^st W50 with a PB of 15.18m. In the Men’s Javelin Wayne Balmer 1^st M35 with 37.44m, Peter Stennett 2^nd M50 with 30.18m, a new club record for a M65 throwing a 700g Javelin. The Javelin event was rounded off with Mick Duffin 2^nd M60 with a throw of 20.02m.

Robert after his win in the 800m at the last meeting and this 2^nd place this again shows that Road Runners can perform on the track with very little additional training.
