Southern Women’s League – Saturday 9th August 2014

Saturday saw the last of the Southern Women’s League matches of the season at Wimbledon. There were some good results. Maria Heslop, having competed in the Tonbridge Park Run in the morning, ran the 3000m, after lapping most of the other participants she won, 28 seconds ahead of the 2nd placed runner (10m 36.6s) also a PB. She claimed another PB in the 1500m finishing 2nd (5m.08.2s). She gained valuable points for the club running the 400m coming 2nd B string (73.5s). Jane Dew, competing for the first time in the league, came 2nd B string in the 3000m (13m 15.7s) and 4th B in the 800m (3m.01.1s). Team Manager Elizabeth Duffin won the Hammer 24.59m, came 2nd in the High Jump and 100mH, 3rd in the Javelin and 4th in the Shot Putt.

Sarah Shepheard won her 200m (30.6s) and threw a PB in the Hammer 19.66m to take 2nd in the B string. Sarah was 2nd in the A 400m (68.9s). Her sister Caroline won the B javelin 18.88m and ran season’s best times in both the 100m (15.8s) and the 200m (33.3s). Their mum Lorraine covered the B Shot and the Discus. In the younger section 11 year old Isabelle Cole, in her first ever Shot Putt competition, came 3rd with 4.79m. She also tried her hand at Discus, throwing 9.24m. Samantha Hockey finished 2nd in the U/15 Javelin 16.51m and 3rd in the 100m (15.4s).

Erin Frankel ran a PB in the 100m (17.2s) and came 3rd in the B Long Jump 2.88m. Unfortunately, due to traffic problems she missed her High Jump competition, so did a non-scoring Javelin and threw a PB of 10.27m.

The team finished 4th on the day and although Paddock Wood had equal league points as the fourth placed team they were pushed down to 5th place for the season as they had less match points.
