On Sunday 26th January, athletes from Paddock Wood A.C travelled to The Stour Centre Ashford to compete in the latest round of the County Sportshall Competitions.

The club had 3 full U/11 teams taking part and half of a team due to 2 athletes not turning up. Harvey Fordham easily won the Standing Long Jump with 2.03m, even some of the older athletes cannot jump 2m. Harvey also did well in the ball push finishing 5th with a push of 6m. Harvey’s partner Oliver Smith, in his first sportshall competition, came 5th in the Standing Long Jump with 1.88, giving them maximum points for that event. Oliver joined Harvey in the ball Push coming 8th with 5.50m. Freya Kirk-Martin and Martha Peachy joined the two boys in team one with Freya’s best event being the Speed Bounce where she jumped 45. Martha, in the same event, jumped 40. The team finished 8th. In team 2 Alfie Morgan claimed 5th place in the Vertical jump with 44cm, a PB, his partner Isabelle Cole jumped 34cm. In the Ball Push Alfie managed 4.50m and Isabelle did 4.25m. Martha McCarthy jumped 1.43m in the Standing Long Jump with Harriet Baily in her first ever competition, jumping 1.18m. The team came 10th. Zara Evans and Eva Wilson made up team 3, another two who had not competed before; they did well in the Speed Bounce with Zara doing 46 bounces and Eva 39. Team Four was made up of Alex Stone, Alistair Dow and Catlin Dow. Alex had a good result in the Speed Bounce with 44 bounces. Catlin jumped 37cm in the Vertical Jump with brother Alistair claiming his best event, the Ball push with 4.50m. The team fished 11th out of 20 teams.

In the U/13 age group Samantha Hockey competed in 5 events, her best being the Speed Bounce where she jumped 77, a PB. Toby West claimed three PBs. In the Vertical Jump he did 41cm, his Standing Long Jump 1.89m and his Speed Bounce 62 Bounces. In the U/15 age group Mia Morgan put the Shot 5.22m, jumped 46cm in the Vertical Jump and did 66 in the Speed Bounce.

Everyone did a great job and this experience of competing for the first time was quite daunting for some, but they all had fun which is what Sportshall is all about.
The next County Sportshall is on the 2nd March at Swanley. The regional Final is at Burgess Hill on the 23rd February.
