Young Persons

Young Persons Representative

I would like to introduce myself as the “Young Person’s Representative” (YPR) at PWAC. This role is relevant to all the young club members (under circa 20), their parents/guardians and anyone else with an interest in the youth of the club.

The YPR post is primarily to give a voice to all issues and suggestions that are relevant and important to the young club members. Things you may want to contact me about may include: your thoughts on training, suggestions you think would improve the club, any other issues and how to become an Olympic Champion.

Although PWAC has been going for 25 years, the young people are the future of the club. As such it would be great to know what you think.

Finally, to quote a runner whose life was tragically cut short aged just 24: “A lot of people run a race to see who’s the fastest. I run to see who has the most guts” Steve Prefontaine. Not sure of the relevance of the quote, except, if you haven’t heard of Steve Prefontaine then you are probably the right age to be giving us your thoughts and ideas…

Many thanks

Janine Brown

  • PWAC Press Report – Young People XC – 13th January 2016

It was a busy weekend for our PWAC youngsters braving the cold and muddy conditions in both the Kent Cross Country Championships for the U13 and overs and The Kent Fitness League for the U11 youngsters.

Braving the dense fog and frost at the Kent Cross Country Championships at Brands hatch on Saturday 7th January, saw Katie Smith (pictured with Brother Harry) finish 57th in the U13G race. Brother Harry followed in the U13 Boys race finishing a fine 82nd. In the U15 Boys Spencer Elphick (pictured) finished a fine 43rd. Finally in the U17 Boys Charles George and Aaron Rowland finished within seconds of each other in 30th and 38th place respectively. Unfortunately Alex Stone and Lauren Harker were both unwell for Saturdays race but have both played a big part in representing PWAC at the Kent XC League across the winter!

It is duly noted that all the above youngsters have competed for the Club throughout this XC Season, competing against youngsters from some of the top Athletic Clubs in the County. They should be proud of themselves mixing it with the best. I am sure that come next season, a year older and the experience they have all gained this season will set them up for next XC season very well. Well done to all.

It’s been fantastic to see all our youngsters excelling over the winter months! There is still a few fixtures left for U11’s 2nd Feb Fitness League Blean Woods, Rough Common Canterbury and 19th Feb at Fowlmead Deal. There is also Junior 1 Mile Race this Sunday 15th Jan

Good luck to all those taking part in the final few fixtures!

    Janine
